Anterior Hip Flexors
Acting as a group, these muscles pull the ilia anteriorly into counternutation [1]p409-424.
Gluteus Medius (anterior fibers)
Origin: Outer surface of the ilium above the anterior gluteal line
Insertion: Lateral surface of the greater trochanter
Gluteus Minimus (anterior fibers)
Origin: Outer surface of the ilium between the anterior and inferior gluteal lines, as far posterior as the greater sciatic notch
Insertion: Anterior aspect of the greater trochanter
Rectus Femoris
It is divided into a straight tendon and a reflected tendon.
Origin: The straight tendon originates at the anterior inferior iliac spine (ASIS). The reflected tendon originates above the acetabular rim and hip capsule.
Insertion: Both tendons insert into the patella and tibial tuberosity via the patellar ligament.
Sartorius
Origin: ASIS.
Insertion: Proximal medial surface of the tibia
Tensor Fascia Lata (Anterior fibers)
Origin: Lateral and posterior to the ASIS
Insertion: Proximal 1/3 of the iliotibial band of the fascia lata
